A little brown-haired girl,
six years aged,
finds a seed on the dirt driveway,
walking home from school.
She stops for a moment,
bends down and picks it up,
then stares wild with imagination,
wondering how it ever got there.
Walking in the front door
still lost in her head,
she asks her brother to help
and he grabs a cup from the top shelf.
Running out side with excitement,
her seed has been drop,
she looks for it here and there,
but it’s unseen anywhere.
Later that night,
Bitty, the dog, is digging around,
and just so happens the seed is found,
and is then knocked underground.
She continues her search,
before arriving to the bus,
and is again disappointed,
with her unturned up seed.
Her father, like he does everyday,
waters the yard,
after sending her along,
to another fun day of school.
Days go by as she is still upset,
over her missing unknown treasure,
when from outside
her name is called.
Looking at her dad,
with confusion showing,
through her face,
her dad points at the ground.
All smiles she looks up,
teeth showing and all,
"what will it be daddy?
Will it be big and tall?"
"We have to wait sweetheart,
cause I don't know,"
He replied to her questions,
while she was preoccupied.
Watching it day by day,
growing taller and taller,
until it was to the top of her head,
and then even taller.
She cared for it
before and after school
excited to see
what it could possibly bring to her.
Waking up one morning,
earlier, even before her dad,
she walked outside,
and looked up to see many black dots.
She ran inside,
scared something had hurt her friend,
"DAD!" she screamed,
while at the end of his bed.
He jumps up,
and then she leads him outside,
for him to see the monsters,
now present on the inside.
"Oh, darlin' that’s nothing bad,
Watch this," he says plucking off a few,
and then munches on them,
showing his hand to her.
She stops for a moment,
looks, and picks another one up,
then stares wild with imagination.
Digging another hole
her dad ask what she’s doing,
she looks to him with glowing eyes and smiles,
"Daddy, I'm rich!"

I love how this is so innocent. Pretty visual too. Is this like a memory of yours?
ReplyDeleteha its the girl with a father.. how could it be a memory of mine? :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story...and I agree with Courtney, I love the innocence behind the whole poem...especially the last line !
ReplyDeleteI really love these three lines...not only do you have rhyme, but also a metaphor !
"and then she leads him outside,

Nice work, Mason!
